Senior A/V Design Engineer

Primary Role:

Responsible for the complete design and engineering of sound reinforcement and A/V systems, based on client requirements and/or specifications.  Must engage in a professional manner at all times with customers.  Provide technical input regarding new or retrofit systems to the sales team. Suggest technical alternatives, select equipment, and manage all design work to meet project deadlines. Must maintain a comprehensive knowledge of sound reinforcement and A/V systems so as to develop technical solutions and complete engineering design specifications that meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide details used for assembly, installation and commissioning of audio, video, and control systems, including conference room AV systems, video conferencing systems, broadcast video systems and large venue sound reinforcement systems.
  • Be able to design speaker and A/V device rigging requirements, including calculation of load ratings, safety factors and rigging details.
  • Assist Sales in conceptual system design for creating sales proposals when requested.
  • Ability to design and engineer complete system(s), creating signal flow and wiring diagrams with AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in EASE sound reinforcement modeling software.
  • Assist Installation staff with troubleshooting of system problems in the field during installation.
  • Program and test computer controlled digital signal processors, mixers, video conferencing systems.
  • Follow projects through to final adjustment and commissioning of installed systems.
  • Create equipment lists, floor plans, block diagrams, wiring diagrams and rack and console elevations.
  • Create test plans and test systems.
  • Coordinate with appropriate departments to assure proper scheduling & integration of designed systems.
  • Must be able to provide economically feasible audio/visual, sound, RF, video conferencing and broadcast video systems design, and propose products for suitability and reliability for use on projects.

Technical Experience & Qualifications:

  • The Project Engineer shall possess a two-year electronics degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 8 years working experience in an A/V engineering capacity is required. Possess a working knowledge of low voltage communications systems.
  • Must demonstrate computer literacy, i.e. MS Word, Outlook, and Excel or equivalent.
  • Thorough AutoCAD LT, Smaart v8 and EASE knowledge.
  • Must have experience with reviewing bid documents for purposes of evaluating and preparing comprehensive bill of materials, scope of work descriptions and detailed drawings.
  • Infocomm CTS-D certification a plus.

  • Must possess the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency.
  • Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized.
  • Must be open to local and out of state travel to client sites as needed.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, teach, and share knowledge.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:

  • Employee is required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers.
  • Some light lifting of objects is required.
  • Reaching, grasping and carrying activities also required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
