Pentegra enables smart buildings with a fiber optic-based network solution acting as a superhighway for invaluable operational optimization. Our PON (Passive Optical Network) solutions open new options for building design and sustainability while creating a scalable, future-proofed network. This intelligent building network solution lowers CAPEX and OPEX because they are less expensive to maintain and require less energy to operate. While perfect for new construction, PON solutions easily integrate into existing structures as well without the need to replace or modify existing building systems.
Pentegra is the only certified designer and integrator of Tellabs OLAN Solutions (passive optical local area network) in the Chicagoland area, providing a comprehensive networking infrastructure that enables secure connectivity for smart buildings and campuses. Our scalable solution provides actionable information and reduces the long-term cost of ownership. Our experience includes hub airport-scale design and integration projects. How PONs work
Traditional active networks utilize electrical signals to transmit data. PON solutions use fiberoptic cabling and light splitters that require no electrical power to operate, saving organizations money. An Optical Network Terminal (ONT) positioned at the network’s edge is capable of turning electrical signals to light signals and vice versa to ensure compatibility with existing in-building systems.
PON has an annual up-time rate known as ‘six nines’, or 99.9999% uptime. This equates to a maximum downtime of 31.5 seconds per year, making PON an ideal solution in high-demand environments where 24/7/365 operation is required. Optical signals can travel up to 18 miles across campuses, airports, or anywhere while offering 4X greater Gigabit port density than traditional copper networks. The Tellabs PON system provides a single point of control, allowing adjustments to be made to the network from one location. PON also requires no cooling so equipment space needed is reduced by up to 90% by eliminating the need for most equipment closets. With a life expectancy of 20+ years, PON is a sustainable solution that saves money and reduces waste vs. traditional ethernet systems that need to be upgraded every 5-7 years.
